After a 10-year effort for getting the necessary permits, securing funding sources and implementing the necessary works, a new modern and fully functional Material Recovery Facility (MRF) is now operational in Rhodes. This facility is aligned with the high recycling targets of the regional and national solid waste management plan.
Since 2011, EPTA SA provided technical services to the Municipality of Rhodes on the project. Moreover, EPTA SA was the technical advisor for the construction of the project, since the project was approved to get funded from the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF).
The capacity of the MRF is approximately 12.428 tn/year and it will serve the entire municipality of Rhodes, with the potential to serve neighboring islands as well.
The MFR has the necessary capacity in order to treat the following 4 recyclable streams:
1. Paper (mixed paper, card, newspapers, magazines)
2. Plastic (tetrapack, PET, PE, film PE)
3. Metal (Fe, Al)
