The Greek Court of Auditors has approved the signing of the PPP contract for the solid waste treatment plant of Epirus Region between the Regional Authority of Epirus and the Contractor TERNA, guaranteed by the Greek Government.
Thus, the construction of the project is about to start. The operation of the project is expected to be made at the end of 2018. The solid waste treatment plant is designed to treat 72.000 tn/year residual mixed municipal waste and 8.000 tn/year source separated biowaste. The maximum capacity of the plant is 105.000 tn/year. The total budget of the plant is estimated at 45.6 million €, whereas 20 million € will be funded by NSRF and the rest will be financed by the contractor and its bank.
The plant includes the following units:
• Mechanical sorting of recyclable materials
• Anaerobic digestion treatment plant with power generation
• Composting plant with two grades of compost
The residues, after treatment, will be disposed to the sanitary landfills of the Epirus Region.
EPTA Environmental Consultants and Engineers, in a consortium, is the technical advisor of the project that supervises the finalization of the contractual documents, the construction until the begging of the operation of the plant.
