The construction and trial operation period of the solid waste treatment plant of Epirus Region, were completed on 27 March 2019, 20 months after the signing of the contract between the Regional Authority of Epirus and the Contractor TERNA ENERGY.
The project of Epirus has designed for 72,000 tons of mixed waste and 8,000 tons of separate collected organic waste, whereas its maximum operating capacity will be 105,000 tons per year. It uses the technology of mechanical and biological processing with energy production. The total investment is estimated at 45.6 million euros including VAT, with a guaranteed funding of 20 million euros from the NSRF (Program 2014-2020), while the rest will be financed by the contractor and its bank.
EPTA Environmental Consultants & Engineers was the technical advisor for the project by providing consulting services to the awarding authority from the beginning of the tendering process and also during the construction and the trial operation period in the framework of joint venture.
The operation of the project will contribute significantly to the compliance with all national and EU waste and circular economy targets, resulting in no future burden of national or European fines for non-rational management.
