A particularly honored international award was won by Greece for the Public Private Partnership (PPP) project: Solid Waste Treatment Plant of Serres, which is implemented by the Regional Solid Waste Management Authority of Central Macedonia.
The project was able to be qualified amongst the six (6) best projects internationally in the category "Best Utilities Projects in 2019" for Europe, Africa, Middle East, within the ‘Partnership Awards’ held in London.
The construction of the Solid Waste Treatment Plant in Serres is an investment of € 36.2 million (with a financial contribution of the NSRF of € 15.2 million) with capacity of 45,000 tonnes per year and the possibility of processing up to 63,000 tonnes per year of mixed and organic waste. The plant produces recycled products such as paper, plastic, metal, glass and compost, using state-of-the-art technology.
This award reflects the quality of the project, both in terms of execution and compliance with the demanding timetable, which is the result of the collective effort of the Regional Solid Waste Management Authority of Central Macedonia, the Greek PPP Special Secretariat and the contractor of the Private Partnership Body of the project, composed of the companies INTRAKAT S.A, ARCHIRODON and ENVITEC S.A.
