The procedure for the awarding of the temporary concessionaire for the project ‘Solid Waste treatment plant in the region of Epirus’ has been completed successfully. This PPP project involves the design, financing, construction, maintenance and operation of the Solid Waste Treatment Plant in Epirus Region and is part of the approved master plan of the Region. ΕPTA S.A. provides consulting services for the project during the awarding phase.
The proposal of the temporary concessionaire includes a mechanical biological treatment plant with a capacity of 80.000 up to 105.000 tonnes municipal solid waste and source separated biowaste. More than 60% of the incoming waste will be diverted from landfills, as recyclable materials and compost, whereas the residues, will be less than 32% disposed to the sanitary landfills of the Epirus Region.
The plant will contribute to the creation of more than 100 job positions during construction and 25-years-operation phase. The construction cost will be funded by 60% under the NSRF, whereas the rest funding will be responsibility of the Contractor. The construction will last 20 months from the signature of the PPP Contract, including the period of the trial operation. Thus, the project‘s construction is estimated to start as soon as the required permits are issued, i.e. the first half of 2015.
