The Municipality of Nea Smirni in the Attica Prefecture has successfully developed the techno-economic design of an extensive upgrade for the street lighting within its territory.
Following a decision of the Municipal council, the project will be financed by the Greek Loan & Mortgage Bank in collaboration with the European Investment Bank, due to the attractive rates, compared to those offered from the commercial Banks.
The project includes the refurbishment of the entire street lighting system by replacing 3.618 luminaires and lamps with new technology LEDs. In this way, there will be an upgrade to the quality and safety of the street lighting in the Municipality region as well as in specific under-illuminated areas. Annual savings, due to reduced electric consumption, are expected to surpass 50%. An extra 10% can be considered by the implementation of control, monitoring and adaptive lighting systems by dimming the luminaires during specific time intervals.
The accomplished feasibility study issues that annual savings not only will be sufficient for loan payments but also will produce Municipal revenues.
EPTA S.A. has technically supported the Municipality throughout all phases of design and development of the Project.
