The Municipality of Ilida located in the Western Greece Prefecture, has successfully developed a Sustainable Action Plan within the framework of the Covenant of Mayors Initiative. EPTA S.A. has technically supported the Municipality to compile the SEAP and to choose the appropriate measures to reduce CO2 emissions by 23% until the year 2020.

According to the Baseline Emission Inventory (BEI), in 2014, 101.155 tonnes of CO2 were emitted within Ilida from municipal activities, residential and tertiary sectors and private transportation. Approximately 39% of the emissions came from the residential sector, 14% from the tertiary sector, 41% from private road transportation and 5% from municipal buildings, vehicles and road lighting.

The SEAP proposed measures and activities to be implemented in different sectors:

1.     Municipal buildings

2.     Buildings of the residential and tertiary sectors

3.     Road lighting

4.     Municipal vehicles

5.     Private vehicles

The Municipality has already started to implement measures for improving its energy efficiency and intends to actively pursue funding opportunities, including the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) 2014-2020. In conclusion, it is expected that total consumption from municipal buildings and infrastructure will be decreased by approximately 55%, from road lighting by 60%, from buildings in residential and tertiary sectors by 8% and from private vehicles by 10%.

Additionally, the Municipality of Ilida has set a target for Renewable Energy production, within its territory, to reach one fifth of its needs in electricity. In order to achieve this, the municipality will install photovoltaics on municipal buildings and promote the installation of private RES projects (primarily photovoltaic).
