The Municipality of Pallini, located within the Attica Prefecture, has successfully developed a Sustainable Energy Action Plan. EPTA S.A. has technically supported the Municipality to compile this Action Plan and to choose the appropriate measures in order to reduce CO2 emissions by 20%, by year 2020.
According to the Baseline Emission Inventory (BEI), in 2012, 325,065 tonnes of CO2 were emitted within Pallini from municipal activities, the residential and tertiary sectors and private transportation. Approximately 43% of the emissions came from the residential sector, 13.1% from the tertiary sector, 42% from private road transportation and 1.9% from municipal buildings, vehicles and road lighting.
The Sustainable Energy Action Plan proposed measures and activities to be implemented in different sectors:
1. Municipal buildings
2. Buildings of the residential and tertiary sectors
3. Road lighting
4. Municipal vehicles
5. Private vehicles
6. Public Procurement
The Municipality has already implemented interventions for improving its energy efficiency (“EKSIKONOMO” programme) and intends to actively pursue further funding opportunities, including under the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) 2014-2020 Programme. In conclusion, it is expected that total emissions from municipal buildings will be decreased by approximately 39%, emissions from road lighting by 39%, and emissions from municipal vehicles by 20%.
Additionally, the Municipality of Pallini has set a target to increase Renewable Energy production within its territory by 8,000MWh. In order to achieve this, the municipality will install photovoltaics on municipal buildings and promote the installation of private RES projects (primarily photovoltaic).
