The construction of two (2) PPP projects for the Waste Treatment Plants, one for the Region of Epirus and one for the Prefecture of Serres, is proceeding intensively. The two (2) Partnership Contracts, apart from the design and construction of the projects, also include the 25-year operation and maintenance of the projects.
The project of Epirus has designed for 72,000 tons of mixed waste and 8,000 tons of separate collected organic waste, whereas its maximum operating capacity will be 105,000 tons per year. It uses the technology of Mechanical and Biological Processing with energy production. The total investment is estimated at 45.6 million euros including VAT, with a guaranteed funding of 20 million euros from the NSRF (Program 2014-2020), while the rest will be financed by the contractor and its bank.
In parallel, the project of Serres has a design capacity of 45,000 tons, of which up to 3,000 tons are the pre-selected organic waste, whereas its maximum operating capacity will be 63,000 tons per year. It uses the technology of Mechanical and Biological Processing, while the total investment is estimated at approximately € 36 million including VAT, with € 15 million from the NSRF, while the rest will also be financed by the contractor and its bank.
The trial operation is expected to start at the end of November 2018 for Epirus, while for the project of Serres is estimated at January 2019.
EPTA Environmental Consultants & Engineers is the Technical Advisor for both projects by providing assistance to the Awarding Authorities during the negotiations for the contractual documents and the construction.
The operation of both projects will contribute significantly to the compliance with all national and EU waste and circular economy targets, resulting in no future burden of national or European fines for non-rational management.
