In the 2050 EU Energy Strategy, the EU has set a long-term goal for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 80-95% when compared to 1990 levels. Recognizing the vital role that regional and local authorities have in meeting EU energy targets, the European Commission launched the CoM initiative in 2008 to endorse and support the efforts deployed by local authorities in the implementation of sustainable energy policies by 2020. City of Ilioupoli compiled and submitted to the Office of the Covenant of Mayors its Sustainable Energy Action Plan, with the aim to reduce CO2 emissions within the limits of the municipality until 2020. The Action Plan was prepared with the involvement of the city stakeholders and the technical support of “EPTA Environmental Consultants Engineers”.
